Dachau Concentration Camp, Germany

It is hard to put into words how to describe the feelings you have as you walk through this place.  Dachau was one of the first concentration camps and one of the longest lasting ones.  Thousands of people lost their lives here.  It has such a solemn feeling. The top picture is the front gate that everyone had to enter in.  It says "Work will make you free".  The horrible things these people had to endure.  The building below is a museum with thousands of pictures.  I didn't even make it through the first few with crying.
There was one whole wall of pictures showing the U.S. serviceman who came to liberate the camp.  I can only imagine those young boys walking in here and seeing these horrible things and having to be the ones to help the survivors.  I wouldn't want my sons to have to see that so I felt such an immense pride for them and their service.  I'm sure that haunted them the rest of their lives.
To stand in the same room where thousand of people were shot, poisoned , and burned is horrifying.
I hope the kids that got to see this will remember it.  This generation has no concept of sacrifice.  I know I will never forget it.  It changes your heart.
