20 years ago Rick and I were married on the hottest day on record! It's kind of hard to believe that it has been that long ago. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. All of these years have taught us so many life lessons as we have experienced wonderful high's and the lowest of low's. Our three children are the center of those experiences. When they were babies I was so tired all the time just trying to keep with them. I innocently thought at that time that this would be the hardest part and when they got a little bigger and more independent it would be easier. That was true for a short period of time. For some unknown reason to me, before my children arrived on this earth, they all decided to skip the patience line and instead must have went to the stubborn line twice! The teenage years have been hard to navigate as each one of them has stretched their wings and have gone their own direction. The tiredness I felt then is nothing to the absolute worry and tiredness I now feel. I still worry every time they get in the car or go on a date. Ben decided way to early what he wanted to do and was off in a blink of an eye that I missed and felt so blindsided and cheated. Kaeli is still circling back and forth and probably won't decide until the last minute because of those Nelson genes she possess. Josh is my most laid back of all. I think he will be a lawyer but Rick is still hoping and guiding for engineer. The days seem to go faster the older they get.
For our anniversary we thought it was only fitting to go to Costa Rica because that is how our life together came to be. I loved having four days to myself and I made him put his phone away. He got to go diving in the mornings while I enjoyed some beach time! In the afternoons we got to take naps and stroll along our favorite beach. In a little corner of the world in Central America where not much goes on is our little piece of paradise. We love visiting new places and seeing different parts of the world but somehow we always end up back here. Playa Hermosa is small and not touristy. That is why we like it so much. Rick got to eat his Mamomes chino's fruit and I got lot's of passion fruit smoothies!
We also got to go ziplinig and horseback riding. I enjoyed just being able to relax for a little bit. My body clock was all messed up from Europe so I was wide awake at 2 a.m. but that gave me time to write in my blog and read my book which I haven't done in about a year. The minute I get home it will be a crazy schedule to keep up with, especially since I have been gone for three weeks, so each morning I watched the sunrise and counted my blessings. I'm sure the next twenty years will also bring joys and sorrows as we enter into a different phase of life. The circle of life will start over and I'm going to really enjoy watching my kids become parents and being a grandma that spoils them rotten!
