We got up early this morning to take the kids hiking in a big National Park. They thought that sounded great until they actually started hiking. It was nine miles of very steep and rough terrain. We went up and down mountains three times. I have to say that it was hard- very hard, but they survived. It was not for the faint of heart. It was amazingly beautiful. It sits on an active volcano which has several mudpots surrounding it. For those you who have never seen these they don't smell very good. Sulfer is released from them so they smell like rotten eggs. The kids didn't like that part of hike. The trail ended at a beautiful waterfall. We rested there and started the long trek back to the ranger station. Kaeli (my girly-girl) had to go to the bathroom. The thought of going in the bushes was "gross" so she wouldn't go until we got back. For the next two hours she did a little potty dance which at times was quite amusing! There were so many fun animals to see. My children are now quite familiar with coati and want to bring one home. There are enormous, bright blue butterflies and LOT'S of monkeys. The howler monkeys sang to us and the chapuchins just swing by to see what you are doing. By the time we got back to our car we were all exhasted, thirsty, and dirty but proud of what we did. Josh made it through the day with only a scraped knee. I don't think they will forget this day for awhile! Their legs are to sore!!!!!
